Four Questions to Ask When Choosing a Migration Agent

  1. How much experience do you have with this sort of visa application?

Just because someone has done a lot of work visas doesn’t mean they know anything about partner visas, your life is in your agents hands so make sure you are not their test subject. Choose someone experienced with your specific scenario!

  1. What will happen if you leave the firm?

Are you getting advice from a registered migration agent or from a salesperson? Even lawyers have to be registered migration agents in order to give you migration law advice. You can ensure you are talking to the right person by making sure they are registered on the OMARA website www.mara.gov.au

  1. What are my obligations?

Some agents/lawyers just want you to sign the contract and pay the fees but if you don’t know what your visa obligations are you can’t be sure that this is the right option for you. Non compliance with visa obligations can lead to visa cancellation and can ruin future visa application opportunities.

  1. Are you a registered migration agent?

Some firms lose staff all the time and hand clients over to three or four different agents.  Often the handover process is messy with documents and information getting lost. Don’t let yourself fall into this situation as it means the new agent might not know some of the vital information you told your previous agent which can put your application in jeopardy.
